DC charging

What is DC charging?

DC (direct current) charging bypasses the onboard converter of electric vehicles (EVs) to allow for much faster charging than AC (alternating current) charging.

This method is commonly used at fast-charging points and can charge from 50kW all the way up to 350kW.

For reference, the latest Tesla Superchargers use DC charging up to 250kW.

Not all electric cars support DC charging, and if they do, the kW they're compatible with can vary.
