Platform

What is a car platform?

A car platform is the underbody and set of major components shared by a number of different models and even types of cars. These platforms are developed by large car manufacturers who own different brands or by different manufacturers who collaborate with each other. For example, the Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform is currently being used for five Audi models, five Seat models, six Skoda models and 14 Volkswagens models. The car industry increasingly uses these shared platforms to reduce the huge cost of developing new cars.
