No-claims bonus (NCB)

What is a no-claims bonus?

A no-claims bonus (NCB) is an insurance discount that drivers receive if they don’t make claims on their policy. For every year that a driver doesn’t make a claim, the insurer will give them one year's no-claims bonus (NCB), which should lower the cost of renewing the policy. These discounts mount up every year, so the more years you drive without making a claim, the lower the cost of your car insurance (up to a maximum number of years, which usually ranges from six to nine years, depending on the insurance company). Drivers can also pay an additional fee (usually around 10% of the premium) to protect their NCB, so if they need to make a claim, their NCB isn’t affected.
