How does a car's immobiliser work?
A car immobiliser is an electronic security device that is designed to prevent an engine from starting unless a car key, that sends out a specific digital electronic signal, is nearby. So even if a thief breaks into a car, it can’t be ‘hot wired’. All cars sold in the UK since 1998 have an immobiliser fitted.
